What Makes Tropical sno Unique?

Tropical shaved ice served at The Snak Shak Cafe, Marlinton.

The Snak Shak Tropical Sno is well known across Marlinton for its unique gourmet shaved ice.

So what makes Tropical Sno #1? We would like to tell you it is the wonderful ownership, and this indeed makes a difference, but to be perfectly honest . . . it's the flavors. One taste will convince you that no one does it better!

Each flavor has it's own distinct "real-to-life" taste. When you order a Strawberry it actually tastes like Strawberries. Order Peach and you will almost taste the fuzz. You can also mix Peach with Orange to make a "Fuzzy Navel" or mix Tangerine and Mango to make "Tangerango". The flavor combinations are virtually endless.

What is the differance than a sno cone and Tropical Sno?

The differance is the sno cones are crushed ice compacted together which makes it hard to eat and the flavoring does not go into the ice, when you eat a tropical sno its like eating real sno, fluffy, powder like  guarantee to taste the flavoring with every bite.

Hunger is under attack at the Snak Shak

Pamela Pritt
Editor

The cure for the hungries is right around the corner in Marlinton at the Snak Shak.

The little restaurant on Third Avenue offers up big sandwiches, salads, soups and more to chase away that craving for something good for lunch.

Snak Shak has a decidedly tropical theme here in the mountains. Its signature feature—Tropical Sno— is a refreshing chiller in the summer. But what about these frosty days?

The Hawaiian Beach Club at the Snak Shak features turkey breast, provolone cheese, avocado spread, sliced cucumber, lettuce, tomato and mayo. Served with chips and a pickle, the sandwich also can be ordered with sides of potato salad, pasta salad or tuna salad. P. Pritt photos

A wide variety of sandwiches has made Snak Shak a big hit around lunchtime. Hawaiian Beach Club—with turkey breast, provolone cheese, avocado spread, sliced cucumber, lettuce, tomato and mayo—Reuben of Your Dreams—with loads of corned beef, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, special sauce and marbled rye bread—and The Duke—shaved roast beef, topped with mayo, lettuce, tomato and, for the adventurous, a touch of horseradish—are just three of the great sandwiches available for the noontime break.

The Snak Shak offers freshly baked breads—wheat, white, flat bread, ciabatta, sourdough and rye. And you’ll get provolone, cheddar, Swiss, American and pepper jack for cheese choices.

The sandwiches can stand on their own, but if you’re really hungry, add a side of pasta salad, potato salad, chicken or tuna salad, all homemade, all tasty and filling.

Add to those, a daily soup special—try that potato bacon for some comfort food—salads with fresh mixed greens that can be topped with steak, grilled chicken, ham, turkey or cream cheese ham rolls and you’ve got a lunch that will last you through until dinner.

The Snak Shak offers flavored coffee singles to chase away the cold this fall and winter. Hot ciders are also available, in addition to iced tea and lemonade.

The sandwiches, soups and salads come in combos at great prices, so you and your wallet will be full after lunch.

In fact, all the Snak Shak’s menu is reasonably priced and the portions are large enough to satisfy the hunger pangs.

Although it’s not a coffee shop, you can have your favorite coffee flavor any old time with the Snak Shak’s coffee singles or sip some cider to chase away the last of the nippy fall winds.

The Snak Shak is small in space, but big on variety and flavor. Check it out for a lunch during the week. The restaurant is closd on Saturdays and Sundays, unless there are special weekend events. They’ll also schedule parties for birthdays and other celebrations outside their normal hours.
